Endangered species are defined by the following characteristics:

• Restricted population of 250 or fewer number of mature individuals

• Population decline of 25% in the last three years 

• Local occupancy of 500 square km or less 

• Rate of 50-70% population decline over the last 10 years

• Projected extinction in the next 20 years

• Total geographic area of less than 5000 square km 

• Population of 2,500 adults
